Shawn Murrow, Jennifer Lenzi and JoEllen Peters discussed the need for a professional women’s group that focused on the unique challenges facing women who own, direct or have a significant leadership role in their professional environment. Shawn and Jennifer teamed up with Rachel Jobs to help them brainstorm concepts and business models for a new business women’s group. In 2006, the trio decided to host a luncheon. The goal was to have a cross section of business women in the group, to provide a useful educational topic, and create an environment for the development of new resources, networking, and business opportunities. Melissa Ransdell of Still Water Communications was the guest speaker at Powerful Connections first two annual luncheons in 2006 and 2007, focusing her presentations on branding and networking. These presentations expanded to a webinar opportunity, the first newsletter, and a PC book club. Membership quickly grew and so did the need to organize and formalize the group. So in 2008, the first official Board of Executive Officers and Directors were formed and the group incorporated Powerful Connections as a 501(c)(6) non-profit business corporation with the help of one of our original members, Mistee Verhulp. The future potential of Powerful Connections is limitless! Careful succession planning is in place to make sure that the group continues to grow in a mindful way, with a focus on its members and their needs. So if you are not a member or have not served as a board member, now is the time to start thinking about whether you would be a good fit for this group and take the opportunity to be a part of the future history of this amazing group of powerful women!
